CYNTHIA MAK's profile

SWEEPING VISTA (GROUP SHOW)

In her first group exhibition, “Sweeping Vista”, Cynthia joins five other contemporary artists invited by Hong Kong’s JPS gallery to present intuitive observations of their inner landscape after the era of pandemic restrictions.
The idea of inner landscape triggered Cynthia’s love for the feeling of perspective, the colour gradient of the skyline at different times of day and the contrasting combination of Mother Nature’s creations with our own.
Building on her previous geometric works, where she constructed Chinese characters from simple block colour shapes, Cynthia introduces a two-point perspective that adds a third dimension and conveys a feeling of modern architectural structures set in three different locations at three different times of the day.
For the second part of the exhibition, Cynthia created two new characters in her original block colour style, related to the inner landscape and herself: “Kong/Harbour”, which also stands for Hong Kong, the artist’s home and base, and “Fung/peak”, the determination to move forward and upward, no matter how hard each journey may be.
